GENRE CONVENTIONS INTRODUCTION (RESEARCH)

Generic conventions are the features shown by texts that allow them to be put into a specific genre for example almost all wersterns use the iconography of cowboy hats, six shooters and horses. Generic conventions also determine what category the text is, such as print or non print and because of this people can either hear the genre or read it. There are different conventions in music videos alone and specifically in genres. For example in a rap video, generic conventions such as flash cars and expensive jewellery are common features.

WHY WE NEED PERMISSION FROM THE ARTIST (PLANNING)

It is useful to gain permission from an artist just for copyright purposes. Although its highly unlikely we will gain money from our video, if we do, Flume can take legal action if necessary.

It is also useful to to book out ask for permission in areas we want to shoot so that we don't cause any disturbances. We also have to take into consideration other groups filming their projects in the drama studio, so if we book it out then we avoid clashing with their shooting schedules.

COPYRIGHT CLEARANCE REQUEST (PLANNING)

An email to the record label that the artist who produced the song we wish to release is signed to, in order to clear us of breaching copyright laws.
