The Idea:
Initially we sat down as a group and discussed at length possible ideas and concepts for the video. As we all like the same music, we decided to choose a genre that we liked, not only musically but also in terms of what the videos are like and how they portrayed people and the artist through the visuals and imagery. So with this in mind we decided to choose the dance genre, and an artist that we believe stands for things that we can personally relate to. Flume - Holdin On is the song we have chosen to use, a track that we interpreted to be about the ups and downs of life and relationships, with an overall emphasis on enjoying life.
During conducting our research of dance music videos we found that a common theme was featuring the documentation of a few young people travelling or going on some sort of journey. This was something that we thought we could convey well as we could add some personal insight too and relate to, as young people, which therefore made it less of a task to appropriately reach and attract our target audience.
The type of music video that we unanimously decided we would like to do was a conceptual video - with Wilkinson's "Afterglow" video acting as a big inspiration for the ideas in our video. We liked the way that this video followed a journey of a relationship whilst making the audience feel involved. Another thing we liked about it was that it was fun and held our attention with ease, again something that we wished to emulate ourselves.
